Arab Strap, “Here We Go.” I recently rediscovered Philophobia after not listening to it since it first came out in 1998. Totally bleak, kind of miserable, yet oddly beautiful and compelling.

"songs"
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, “White Palms.” An old favorite. Their debut album popped up on random today; it’s held up quite well since its heyday.
Psychic Ills, “Meta.” Spaced-out drone jam from deep in the heart of Brooklyn, from their new record Mirror Eye. Very loose and drifting; I was going to put another song from the record but nearly every track on there is 10MB+…which gives you an indication of the type of band they are.
Studio, “West Side.” Heard this on WFMU last night, thought it sounded like a cross between ambient dub and Duran Duran, right down to the nonsensical lyrics.
Fever Ray, “Dry and Dusty.” Karin from the Knife’s solo project. More ambient and, I daresay, spookier than ever. But somehow more emotionally accessible.
Xiu Xiu, “I do what I want, when I want.”
R.E.M., “Radio Free Europe.” It’s the sort of day where you drink tea and listen to early R.E.M. Haven’t kept up much with them over the past decade, but I love their early records a lot.
Scout Niblett & Will Oldham, “Kiss”
Junior Boys, “Teach Me How to Fight”
Smog, “Bathysphere.” I seem to be having an indie-rock weirdo moment. Cat Power did a cover of this, but I always like the odd, fucked-up New Wave vibe of the original.
The Chromatics, “Running Up That Hill”
Lil Wayne feat. Kanye West and Oba Rowland, “Lollipop 2.0 (The Cincinnati Monster Version)”
